Second Poem of the Week: Question

Oh, man, I love the internet!

Almost 35 years ago, when I was in high school, I read a poem that struck me as great and powerful. It stayed with me, especially one quote from it, as one of my favorite poems. But I didn't know who wrote it. I couldn't remember much of it except in a general way (and that one quote).

I've looked for it, on and off, for many years. Just a couple of weeks ago I plugged the quote into google, and came up with nothing.

But a couple of minutes ago, right there on my friends list, I saw that someone had posted it to the greatpoets community last night!

Friends, here it is, the poem I've been trying to find since I was 14! (OK, so I was a morbid kid):

May Swenson

Body my house
my horse my hound
what will I do
when you are fallen

Where will I sleep
How will I ride
What will I hunt

Where can I go
without my mount
all eager and quick
How will I know
in thicket ahead
is danger or treasure
when Body my good
bright dog is dead

How will it be
to lie in the sky
without roof or door
and wind for an eye

With cloud for shift
how will I hide?
