at work
The protests are making a difference. Within the last three hours, the censored interests have been restored!

If you look at the Popular Interests page, you will once again see the formerly filtered "fanfiction", "depression", "bisexuality" -- even "faeries". LiveJournal is once again presenting its true face to the world, not a sanitized blandness.

Please continue to spread the word about the Content Strike. We are not merely consumers. We are a Community of Users, and we will be heard.

LiveJournal Content Strike, Friday, March 21, midnight to midnight GMT.

In honor of all this, I have added "unhappy bisexual kinky elves" to my interest list.

I was referred to here, and I am going to participate :)

My question is, can you get someone to make a banner for this event? It'd be neat to have a nice little badge I could stick in my lj to show support.

I'm sure many others would be willing to make some too. That's a simple one I just made real quick, buttt I could try making others as well.

Stole that jpg! Does anyone have a Content Strike icon in LJ's format?

I just uploaded one. And I made two others. But they're kind of, er...well, they're not all too "simple." Should I make something with more of a background like that banner?

In my sick little mind, it's always best to use their own Logos against them, so if you can modify say one of Becky Z's LJ type icons, that would optimal. =)

Yeah, I made it. But you don't have to credit. Just link to the relevant post in this journal or to [info]lecollage, if you wish to spread the word. Thanks. (:

And many are paying users at that!

I can't believe they did that, you know?

Of course, fanfiction is eeeeevil so I understand why they wanted that removed from the interests! ;D

Thanks for the heads up on all this, and the strike!

I filed feedback, pointing out that I've been in pain every day for nine years and am deeply offended that LiveJournal thinks the public shouldn't be allowed to know that I talk about it.

I got a personal reply via email and an apology.

That's better than Six Apart ever did.

I normally don't even bother to do most of this stuff, and just quietly be annoyed, but I'm going to go with this one. I agree. Plus the other stupid issues lately- it's just... dumb. Glad to be a part of it. :)

Ah, but you forget that one is obligated to drink until one cannot tell the difference between "Bless LiveJournal" and "Curse MySpace".

To build a fence around LiveJournal, the tzadik will open a MySpace account well in advance of Purim, and by no means wait until Purim Day!

As it is written, "King Achashvairosh imposed a tax on the land and on the islands". We LIVE on land and on islands. Therefore on Purim day we remember the tax on the land and on the islands, and refrain from posting on LIVE Journal.

Again, it is written, "King Achashvairosh imposed a tax on the land and on the islands". From this we learn that no tax was imposed on the ocean! The ocean is SPACious. Clal v'homer, it is praiseworthy to post much on MySpace on Purim Day. And he whose posts are the most drunken has the most merit.

I'm glad people are coming together, and I really do hope that changes are made and that all of this censorship and the money-driven horrible ideas cease. I think another thing they need to think about is that a lot of the people who START OUT as basic/free users eventually become paid users. Gah, what money-hungry jerks to think that ads should just be put all over the place and that no one should have an option to NOT have ads/be a paid user. I find it interesting that a lot of us who want this changed are actually PAID users. But it makes sense. How many of us started out as paid users? A very small percentage, I'm sure. We probably all had basic/free accounts for a good period of time before upgrading. And we know how much the free users add to LiveJournal as a whole. I went a couple of years before I ended up with a paid account, but I now feel somewhat committed to LiveJournal and plan to always have my LiveJournal be a paid journal. People don't go to Internet sites immediately wanting to pay for it, but they end up realizing that it's worth it and that they are emotionally and mentally invested in it enough to want to also be financially invested. And the younger people who start on LiveJournal might not have the money to get a paid account (or a PayPal account or credit card or checks or what have you), but when they are older and perhaps still very interested in LiveJournal, they will. Blah. All of the stuff that has been going on is all-around hogwash, and I really don't want to see LiveJournal fall apart, so I hope this is all taken care of.

You should officially add "not visit lj at all" to the strike list. Page views and downloads are how they generate ad revenue.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Becky. I'll be celebrating Purim, so it's unlikely I would have posted anyway, but now I will make a conscious effort not to post.

BTW, I've added you here.
