Overheard on a Salt Marsh
by Harold Monro
Nymph, nymph, what are your beads?
Green glass, goblin. Why do you stare at them?
Give them me.
No.
Give them me. Give them me.
No.
Then I will howl all night in the reeds. Lie in the mud and howl for them.
Goblin, why do you love them so?
They are better than stars or water,
Better than voices of winds that sing,
Better than any man's fair daughter,
Your green glass beads on a silver ring.
Hush, I stole them out of the moon.
Give me your beads. I desire them.
No.
I will howl in a deep lagoon for your green glass beads, I love them so. Give them me. Give them me.
No.

It's one of my faves!
Y'know this and the great poets list have been so wonderful. I love/hate poetry and there have been so many wonderful pieces that have trickled across my screen since "friending" you. Thanks!
I have been searching high and low for the specific childrens reading book that you mention. I remember from my childhood a faded red on the top and bottom of the cover, with some line of images or artwork in-between?
My dear grandmother died recently, and she used to read to me out of that book daily, over and over.
I would be deeply moved to own a copy of it, from whatever source. That single reader was a veritable column - a foundation of childhood memory for me. I remember The Raggedy Man from it also.
Any information you could give me about it's ISN#, or whatever else, would be so greatly appreciated.

Yeah, nine 'E's...
Thank you so much in advance for any response, or information you'd be willing to give about the particular childrens reader you speak of.
Though I don't really know what the name of the collection is, and know nothing of whatever value it may have on the market, I would be more than willing to purchase it from you...
Truly, Jordan Williams
