Remember the story of the little girl throwing starfish back into the ocean? Her Dad told her that it was the nature of life for starfish to die on the beach, and she could not save all of them. The little girl said, "But I can save this one!", and threw it back into the ocean. We cannot make the world a perfect place, but we can make it better. One starfish at a time.
It is the nature of the internet for there to be ass-hats and trolls. We cannot remove all of them. But we can still do our part throw them off the LJ beach where they rot and stink up the place for all of us. One ass-hat at a time.
Did you know that a "prank" link to goatse is a felony in the United States?
IANAL, but it sure looks to me like if you placed a link to an obscene image, and that link is not clearly labeled as leading to a potentially obscene image, you would be violating Chapter 110 of title 18, United States Code, section 2252C, "Misleading words or digital images on the Internet":
You do not need to be a resident of the United States to file a complaint through the US Internet Crime Complaint Center.
If you were affected by the ljmojo-goatse "prank" perpetrated by
d1rtyf1lthy and
petramagus, especially if you have kids that might have seen it, go report it. It will take just minutes of your time.
We can't get rid of all the stink on the beach. But we can do our part. One Ass-Hat At A Time.

I deal with 2257 data all day. I also know one or two people who have run afoul of porn statutes. We're talking about ruining the rest of his life, and the lives of his family.
Still, I wouldn't be sorry to see him face the full consequences of his actions. I've received confidential emails from two young women who know him in real life. They say he's an abusive bully, and they're physically afraid of him.
Time to move on.
The text of the legislation is here, the relevant portion is Section 703, Deception by Embedded Words or Images.
I'd just like to post a little link here, to a comment you've made elsewhere. I think it's important that a person be willing to stand by their words, so I'd like to give your peers a chance to judge you for themselves.

Of course, if you delete this comment, that will tell me all I need to know about you.
Most likely nothing will happen- but there's always hope.
He claims to have put goatse in 60,000 journals. I hope a fair number of them will complain.
The more people who report it, the more likely the over-worked ICCC is to investigate it.
If they exist, that is. You'd better have those emails handy.
Your defamatory statements in the emails you sent were intended to cause harm. This is a deliberate action to harm another person. How can you get on your high horse about a meme when you've tried to socially engineer an attack on dirtyfithy?
I believe your statements in those emails also constitute hate speech. You owe dirtyfilthy an apology.

Are you insinuating that he was assaulted by
If so, please urge him to report it to the police.
If not, I don't see the point in your comment?
Are you really that insensitive?
You are completely trivializing the experience those kids had - the complete horror of the situation. I would think (living in America) that you might have some understanding of the shock, pain, terror and anger surrounding the Edgeware Road incident. I guess not.
The amount of lives that were affected - the pain and heartache those children will experience for the rest of their lives.
Even if you are just making some twisted point you have no right to even comment on the tragedy in this way.
How dare you even begin to make any sort of comparison.
She REALLY IS that twisted.
One was a teacher who had randomly assigned the ljmojo meme to her class as an exercise in how to do data collection.
Have either one of them even apologized?
This is all a con right? I am in the presence of a grandmaster.
Some part of me still refuses to believe people like you can really exist. It's like watching a bad parody.
I also agree with the anon who stated that:
"SOMEONES LJ PERSONA DOES NOT MEAN CRAP AS TO WHO THEY ARE IN REAL LIFE".
Although I'm more inclined to say it as: The works of authors do not always reflect their true personalities. Doubly so in regards to internet personas, and even MORE so in regards the kind of internet personas which have been engineered to experiment with social dynamics.
mea culpa.
Oh my fucking god.
Are you serious?
You need serious help.
Time to move on."
What a nice quote. I like it.
Also, learn to think up your own responses, hmmm?
Time to move on.
It has a certain ring to it, doesn't it? Very clever bit of writing, that.
Saying you know more about their relationship because you're older and have kids?
I hate to break it to you, but being older does not necessarily imply knowledge, understanding or omniscience.
You are making accusations against someone you've never meet and assumptions about people (and a relationship) you know nothing about - despite your incredibly arrogant claims.
Caleb the Cowardly banned you, not everybody who disagreed with him. Now you have done the same. Seems kind of COWARDLY don't you think? The only reason I am posting anonymously is because you have someone leaking personal information to you and I don't need the annoyance.
Publishing someone's full name and contact information is expressly forbidden by the TOS.
Besides, anybody stupid enough to to think surveys, quizzes and 'mojo tests' are a legitimate form of entertainment DESERVES to be Goatse'd, Tubgirl'd or worse.
The fact that there are certain laws in place for such things as the "goatse incident" do not mean that any action can be taken. The fact of the matter is that it's too small on the scale of real criminal activities.
The most humerous thing I find is that you would have more chance of getting someone prosecuted for posting a picture of them smoking marijuana than you would getting Caleb prosecuted for anything to do with the goatse images.
As far as the issue of people getting fired for having a goatse image in their cache:
#1 Don't browse LJ at work. Your there to work not post inane crap about your boring life.
#2 Turn off cache settings.
#3 Don't take a job for someone so idiotic to fire you for making a minor mistake.
You are also commenting on a nine-day-old post, but, hey, common sense was never your strong point, was it?
If you want me to give it up already, wouldn't it make sense to comment on the posts I've recently made about
Now go away. Shoo.
